the Cent Project

Our Volunteers

All of the volunteers who have lent a hand in this project are greatly appreciated, but we always need more! In an effort to make this project as accurate as possibe, we are attempting to take samples of cents evenly from all parts of the country. Because we already have the electoral college, which is also a group selected by population, we are using this as our key to how many people we need from each state.

Below is a list of all the volunteers who have stepped forward to this point, sorted by state. If you see there is space in your state and would like to volunteer, please send an email - cd@thecentproject.com

If you have already volunteered, you should see some representation of your name or email address underneath your state below. Those whose names are listed multiple times have volunteered to do more than one person's share, so if you see a person's name listed more than once, and want to help relieve their pressure, just contact us and we'll coordinate getting you involved.

We are currently working on a volunteer need basis of approximately 520 volunteers, but we are accepting ANY volunteer up to a 20% overage in any state. With that being the case, if your state is filled but you would still like to participate, please do not hesitate to send a message. I can get you on the stand-by list just in case we do double our volunteer needs or in case someone else from your area has to pull out.

If you cannot volunteer your time to sort but would still like to help... please contact us about sending $50 in cents to us from your area so we can sort them. While we do appreciate volunteers who will help and donate their time to do the study, we also understand that this is not an easy and simple process and not everyone has time for it. We still appreciate that you can take the time to acquire coins and mail them to us so we can sort them. We will pay for the coins plus shipping from anywhere we need representation.

Special Update - 10/24/2007:

For those who have been here before and are following this page, you will notice that I doubled the volunteer requirements today. This is in part because of the generosity I have received to date. We currently have at least one representative from at least 40 different states, with the smallest and the two farthest away from center accounted for in at least one person sorting. The increase is also in part because these numbers are the truly realistic numbers needed to make the project a real success. The numbers I had here before were the absolute minimum acceptable to make the data worthwhile. Another reason for the increase is because of the generosity of the media - this project has now been announced by CONECA, About.com, Coin World, Numismatic News, the Society of Lincoln Cent Collectors, and has been spread around a number of online message boards. Links to all these entities are forthcoming. Again, I appreciate your volunteerism!
